Which games belong on BoardGameRiot?
BoardGameRiot is for games people own, bring to game night, and actually want to play—not an attempt to list every game ever made.
-
A real game publisher must have published it.
The publisher must genuinely have been in the business of producing, manufacturing, or selling games. A name that simply calls itself a publisher is not enough.
-
It must have been professionally produced and offered for public purchase.
A qualifying edition must have been made available to buy as a game in a professionally produced run of at least 500 copies. Made-to-order games do not qualify.
-
One-offs and public-domain games are outside the catalog.
Handmade one-offs, self-published games, print-and-play games, games published in magazines, and public-domain games are not included. For example, owning a deck of cards does not mean you own Poker as a published game in the sense intended here.
-
It should belong in someone’s collection and be a real game-night option.
We focus on games people keep and might select to play at game night. Games published before 1970 are considered at the admins’ discretion; older games can still qualify when they are played and relevant to the community.
-
Games should have meaningful ownership in the community.
This is a curated list centered on games owned by people who use BoardGameRiot, not a database of every board game ever published. There is no fixed owner-count cutoff; broad ownership and community relevance matter. For exhaustive catalogs and alternate editions, BoardGameGeek (BGG) is a better fit.
